Summer is nearly hear. The solstice. The end of the Spring term. There's a rumor that I have had an attempted murderer as a colleague. Also, two of my students found a six-inch blade in our computer lab classroom a month ago.
Flying off to Annapolis next weekend, but celebrating two years of marriage prior to his.
My June Reading list:
- Cesar Aira's Ghost
- Miguel Syjuco's Illustrado
- Bolano's Monsieur Pain
- Bolano's Antwerp (Since I love his work, I have to re-read this short "novel" and try to figure out better what he's doing with the short dialogue that seems chaotically placed.)
I just finished teaching The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, and am awaiting the students' literary analyses of the roles of silence and love.
I am hoping a few more books come in at Columbia that I requested come in, including Yoko Ogawa's Hotel Iris. If you have not read The Housekeeper and the Professor, I profess that you must, IMMEDIATELY. Her prose is like experiencing firsthand the cherry blossom's blossom, a one-day reading that will hold dear.
I like the new blogger choices, and the school years out, and I'm working on a new piece of fiction, and I see blogger differently. This all means I might return to my Internet audience of (n)one.
bests,
C.

I wanted to find my poems and googled my name and Hunger Mountain (kind of embarrassing, but true) and found this. (I'm Erika Sánchez) Thanks so much for the shout out! Can you let me know which poems you wrote?
I'm Christopher. Mine is "The Boundaries of Science." I had to withdraw a second poem HM wanted that went to storySouth.
Oh, and I google myself all of the time, and friends, etc. There's someone else with my name, from the same state, who is a journalist. So, I have to make sure he does nothing nefarious that is assigned to me!
But, I've enjoyed reading your poems over and over.
LOL. I, too, enjoyed your poem! A LOT. In fact, I commented on it. There are many Erika Sanchezes in the world, so I try to distinguish myself with my middle initial. I'm glad you liked my poems. Where can I read more of yours?
Sorry, we were on vacation in Alaska. My newest work will be out in Copper Nickel and The Los Angeles Review this fall. Beyond that, I'll be lucky to get much out there, until I start writing again. My wife and I just moved out of Chicago, so I am hoping that inspires my drain that is trying to get work read by an audience.
What about you?
